An employer of choice is an organization that values employee well-being and offers a fulfilling career path, a supportive environment, and a culture that values employee well-being. This approach attracts and retains top talent through a holistic approach to employee satisfaction. Being recognized as an employer of choice has far-reaching implications, as it can lead to higher employee engagement, reduced turnover, and a stronger ability to attract top talent(Freeman, 1984)

Key characteristics of an employer of choice include employee recognition, work-life balance, comprehensive employee benefits package, employee engagement, company culture, job security, and a supportive work environment.

Employee recognition is a comprehensive strategy that includes both formal award systems and informal acknowledgments. Work-life balance is a critical aspect of modern employment, and employers of choice offer flexibility to help employees balance their professional and personal responsibilities effectively(Schmaltz & Tucker-Smith, 2005).

Comprehensive employee benefits package includes wellness programs, mental health support, and perks like gym memberships or childcare assistance. Employee engagement is crucial for a successful business, and a positive, inclusive, and dynamic company culture is essential for employee satisfaction and retention(Podgórska & Pichlak, 2019).

This is about her experience in handling different people and students within the campus. And her job role regarding it. It is a transformational type but also a servant leadership.

Ms Leandra Joseph inspires positive changes in those who follow the course and shows transformational leadership that is generally energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate. Not only are these leaders concerned and involved in the process, but they are also focused on helping every member of the group succeed.

Higgs Model: Employer of Choice

Creating a Workplace that Attracts and Retains Talent

  • Employers of Cash
  • Employers of Value
  • Employers of Churn
  • Employers of Choice

Cash Employers: These organizations focus on providing high monetary compensation to their employees.
Employees are attracted to competitive pay, but they often face challenges such as long working hours and high work pressure, which can lead to a poor work-life balance.

Valued Employers: These organizations may not offer the highest salaries in the industry, but they focus on providing other forms of value to their employees.
(Baden, n.d.)

Dream Employers have successfully created an environment where employees feel valued, respected, and connected to the organization.
These organizations provide competitive compensation, promote work-life balance, provide opportunities for growth and development, promote employee engagement and recognition, ensure effective communication channels, and promote diversity and inclusion.

We focus on support, implementing flexible working arrangements, and creating a healthy and safe working environment.
(Higgs Model of Employee, 2023)

The employer of choice means an organization is highly desirable and preferred by job seekers and employees, offering attractive benefits and opportunities. This leads to increased talent attraction, improved employee retention, and a competitive advantage in the labor market. Employer branding theory focuses on creating a unique image.(Schmaltz & Tucker-Smith, 2005).

To become an employer of choice, organizations should adopt a strategic approach, implementing the Higgs Model of Employer of Choice. Key steps include building a positive culture, promoting work-life balance, offering competitive compensation, fostering engagement, and prioritizing effective communication. Continuous improvement and support for diversity and inclusion further solidify their status(Podgórska & Pichlak, 2019).

Benefits of Increased Productivity

  1. Effective utilization of resources results in increased production volume and lesser cost of production.
  2. Reduced time-to-market, better quality assured
  3. Less overhead costs
  4. More profits to stakeholders
  5. Higher per capita income generated
  6. Helps achieve overall growth and prosperity of the business

MANAGEMENT FOR PRODUCTIVITY

Productivity management is an organizational framework that enhances productivity by converting inputs like labor and capital into outputs. Managers use goals, incentives, development, and communication strategies to enhance employee performance, maximizing business gains through improved productivity and quality, while poor management can lead to lackluster employee performance. Mistakes can deter progress, but assess whether they were due to carelessness or complex tasks. A reprimand if repeated, but discuss decision-making with team members. Encourage independent work and ask questions for feedback to improve productivity. Create a performance evaluation sheet with points for each factor and assign weights to reflect company objectives. Find each employee's productivity score by applying the weight of each metric. Productivity management involves motivating individuals and teams through goals, incentives, communication, development opportunities, and personalization, often part of a comprehensive talent management program or training(Bardoel et al. 2014).

    1. yes and Quantum field theory, which based quantum electromagnetism, faced a challenge in describing weak interactions due to the lack of mass for weak force carriers like W and Z bosons. The Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism solved this issue by creating a new quantum field called the Higgs field and a special trick called spontaneous symmetry breaking. This breaking occurs when a theory's equations are disrupted in the physical system, allowing the laws of nature to remain unchanged without disrupting the symmetry of physics.

  2. This blog discusses Ms. Leandra Joseph's inspirational leadership style, emphasizing her ability to inspire positive changes among students and colleagues. It presents the difference between Cash Employers and Valued Employers using the Higgs Model of Employer of Choice. It highlights how important it is to have a welcoming workplace that values workers' growth, well-being, and diversity so as to bring in and retain top talent.

    1. Yes and speaking about the theory....The Higgs boson, discovered in 2012, is a particle associated with the Behavioural Excitation-Hysteresis (BEH) mechanism. Its properties are predicted by the theory, providing strong evidence for the BEH mechanism. The discovery confirms the Higgs field and the BEH mechanism, allowing researchers to explore mysteries in particle physics and cosmology. we can compare them practically

    1. The Higgs boson differs from the Standard Model's simplest version, with theories like Supersymmetry and compositeness suggesting a zoo of new particles. CMS is a general-purpose detector designed to study high-energy particle collisions, aiming to uncover deeper, more fundamental theories beneath the Standard Model. Expected phenomena may be hidden beneath the Model.(Cahn and Dawson 1984)

  5. Well written Amesha,
It’s a positive discussion on workplace management and HR strategies. The 'Higgs Model: Employer of Choice' was especially interesting. It clearly indicates the types of employers, some of which prioritize employee well-being and value over just monetary compensation. This perspective gives a better idea of what organizations value.
The terms 'Cash Employers' and 'Valued Employers' help us understand what makes employees happy and stay in their jobs. It's not just about how much money they make. Employees also want a work environment that supports their growth, gets them involved, and allows them to balance their work and personal life. It's not just about money, it's about creating a great place to work.

In today's world, companies need to create a work environment where employees feel appreciated, respected, and connected to the company. This approach aligns with the current trend in Human Resource Management (HRM) that focuses on the importance of employee experience and company culture to attract and retain top talent.
The discussion around 'Higgs Model: Employer of Choice' gives a good understanding of HR practices. It shows how important it is for companies to create a positive work environment and take care of their employees' well-being to be successful. This talk is a reminder to companies to not just focus on money but also on things that make their employees happy and committed in the long run.

  9. Dear Amesha I do lost in the article i do feel like you want to highlight two areas . One is leaders role . When it comes to leaders section do you think if we can apply servant leadership. when it comes to higs model i believe you have missed to explain two areas benefits of the readers i have mention it below. I do believe Dream Employers have successfully created an environment where employees feel valued, respected, and connected to the organization(Higgs Model of Employee, 2023).

Employers of Churn, characterized by high turnover rates and disengaged employees, often grapple with issues such as poor workplace culture, inadequate compensation, and limited growth opportunities (Smith, 2020). Conversely, Employers of Choice prioritize employee satisfaction, offering competitive compensation packages, fostering positive workplace cultures, and providing ample opportunities for career growth and development (Johnson, 2019).

    1. To explain furthermore Standard Model. The Higgs mechanism was incorporated into modern particle physics by Steven Weinberg and Abdus Salam, and is an essential part of the Standard Model. In the Standard Model, at temperatures high enough that electroweak symmetry is unbroken, all elementary particles are massless(Jain et al. 2017).

    1. The most important factor is Employers of cash prioritize financial compensation, often leading to long working hours and high-pressure roles. Employers of value focus on job security, professional growth, and a meaningful work environment. Employers of churn prioritize cost-cutting and fail to prioritize employee well-being, resulting in high turnover rates and difficulty attracting top talent. Employers of choice create an environment where employees feel valued, respected, and connected, focusing on competitive compensation, work-life balance, growth opportunities, engagement, communication, diversity, inclusion, flexible work arrangements, and a healthy work environment.

  11. A really good article. The information elaborated was great and the theoretical explanation regarding employees of cash was very new to myself. I personally feel employees of value are a great asset to the organization. What type of employees do you feel are a great asset to the organization? The benefits of productivity and management of productivity has been well explained emphasizing the importance of those to the organization.

    1. Thankyou thenukshan! According to the theory, an individual can be productive and motivated to achieve the most they can if they are healthy, safe, secure and in an environment of meaningful people. Therefore, team productivity can increase only when employees of a company are in good health and feel safe and secure.
